Okay... So it's 2021 and I wanted a refresher on web development.
I had a few questions like:
What should I read?
What language should I use?
a quick google search later and I was like
๐ต๐ต๐ต
So much information, I don't know what to choose... So might as well sleep it off first...
When I woke up feeling rather refreshed, but still a bit discouraged. Instead of searching google, I decided, why not search Hashnode instead?
In Hashnode, there are tons of articles suggesting roadmaps on web development.
These roadmaps point you to what language to learn and online resources to take to become a web developer.
And in reading some of those articles I found my first step.
THE FIRST STEP
During my reading, most roadmaps differ from one another but they are similar on the first step.
Which is to learn HTML, CSS & Javascript.
So off I go looking for resources.
When I was still studying, our usual reference when it comes to web development was W3Schools.com.
I tried it but it doesn't suit my learning style. Some topics leave me more confused, even though I managed to do the exercises.
And then I found this site.
Freecodecamp.org is a nonprofit community that helps you learn to code through the use of coding challenges and projects. You'll also earn verified certifications along the way.
You get to learn how to code and earn a certificate you can use for employment as well. So that's two birds with one stone.
I started their Responsive Web Design Module.
I like their format because I can go through the exercises I am already familiar with and take longer on the areas that I have a hard time understanding.
I breezed through their basic HTML and CSS course, now I'm in the middle of the the Applied Visual Design Course.
In this course, they teach you how to apply elements of visual design to your web pages such as:
- Element Positions (Page Layout)
- Typography
- Color combinations
- Animation
I'm taking my time on this course as I'm not that good when it comes to design. Before, I went straight to bootstrap to finish my projects in a short time. Without understanding what the code means, or how it affects the elements on the page.
Now thanks to Freecodecamp.org, I get to understand the concepts behind the code a bit better.
CONCLUSION
So that's my progress so far, I know it's very slow progress but as they say:
If you're curious, need a refresher, or want to start in web development, head on over to Freecodecamp.org and sign up.
It's 100% free and you can take your time when it comes to the exercises.
Hopefully, I'll be done with the module by the end of the week. But realistically I'm giving myself until next week, due to new work roles given to us.
Don't worry I'll update you with what I learned at the end of the course. Until then catch you guys later!

To Bingle Padilla for letting me participate in your project. You gave me a real eye-opener on how outdated/ out of touch I am with regards to CSS ๐ ๐ ๐ Check out her journey here
